Popular junior Rugby program, Rookies2Reds, is back in 2017 and will give primary school-aged boys and girls the chance to emulate their Queensland Reds heroes while developing their Rugby skills.
Rookies2Reds is Queensland Rugby Union’s inclusive, introductory Rugby program and provides Queensland kids with a pathway to progress from being a Rookie to a Red. The program connects participants and their families with their local junior Rugby club and Rookies2Reds centre.
More than 7,000 Queensland juniors experienced Rookies2Reds at over 200 centres in 2016.
Rookies2Reds registrations are now open and kids and parents can find their local centre through www.Rookies2Reds.com.au or by calling the Reds Service Centre on 1300 753 733.
Through Rookies2Reds, boys and girls aged between 2 and 11 are taught the basics of Rugby while also learning about the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle which is promoted throughout the sessions along with Rugby’s key values of teamwork, fairness and respect.
Lessons are structured around the needs of four distinct age groups; Super Tots (ages 2-4), Little Legends (ages 5-7), Junior Champs (ages 8-9), and Future Stars (ages 10-11).
The Rookies2Reds program have added two participantion options "Rookies2Reds Super Sevens" and "Advanced Rookies2Reds".
Super Sevens will give young boys and girls the opportunity to sample the sevens format of the game in both the non-contact and contact versions of the game. Participants will be able to enter a team with their friends and practice the Rugby skills they acquired through the Rookies2Reds program.
Advanced Rookies2Reds will offer our graduates of the Junior Champs program the opportunity to further their skills and focus on long term player development.
As well as professional coaching, participants also receive a special Rookies2Reds pack which includes a variety of gear including a drawstring bag, flat brim hat, Rugby ball, ball pump, lanyard, member benefits of 10% off Reds merchandise and Family Pass to a Reds home game.
